Moderate A Forum

We are looking for experts!

  • Do you have a certain professional knowledge/expertise?
  • Would you like to share that expertise with other like-minded people and learn from them too?
  • Would you like to gain exposure for yourself or your business amongst your peers?
If so, you might want to consider moderating one or more of our forums.

What would I have to do?

Moderating an online forum is somewhat similar to moderating a face-to-face meeting or discussion group. Imagine a room full of people that share a certain common interest or expertise. These people would almost certainly converse with each other but the discussions may not be as focused as they could be, individuals might try to dominate the group, and discussions might stray off topic and degrade into (for lack of a better term) boring pissing contests. This would destroy the value of the meeting.

That's where the forum moderator comes in.

The moderator's job is to direct the conversation, focusing it on topics that the group would be interested in. He or she should make sure that everybody is included in the discussion and that nobody (including the moderator) dominates it.

How exactly is this done in an online forum?

Basically, you would check the posts in your forum on this website each day (or maybe a couple of times a day if the forum is very active), read the posts, reply to them when direction is needed or if you have something to contribute, and delete them if they are inappropriate. You might also have to reply to an occasional off-line email from a forum member. All of this can be done from the website after you are given administrative priviliges.

It would normally take an average of about one hour of your time each week to moderate a forum.
